Vines and wines

Old grape varieties & young talents!

There are still some small vineyards that have survived thanks to the talent of a few people attached to their land.

To find them simply move away from the banks of the great Loire river to explore the Loir Valley. Here, the climate, the soil and the grape varieties all favour wine production: Coteaux du Loir (AOC since 1948), Jasnières (AOC since 1937) and Coteaux du Vendômois (AOC since 2000) share the limelight.

Wine estates open to the public and the ‘vignobles et découvertes’ label

The winegrowing estates labelled ‘Caves touristiques de la Vallée du Loir’ guarantee a high-quality welcome, regular opening hours, a free guided tasting session (for individuals) in well-equipped premises and by-the-bottle sales. Contact them - they will be delighted to have you and to share with you their passion for vineyards and wine.

The story starts in 2009 with a passionate determination to have the Loir vineyard included within the family of prestigious wine-growing destinations. A board of experts, supported by the Ministers for Tourism and Agriculture, studied the Loir Valley's application for several months in order to assess its potential and the quality of the wine tourism services. In 2010, the Loir Valley vineyard was included for the first time within the family of the 'Vignobles et Découvertes' (Vineyards and Discoveries) label, and as testimony to their desire to always provide the best, the label was extended in 2013.
